About Melody Joy Kramer
I grew up in South Jersey, moved to Philadelphia for college, and then worked for a while at NPR, first as a Kroc Fellow in Washington D.C. and then as the director and associate producer of NPR’s humor show, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me out in Chicago.
At Wait Wait I edited the show, wrote a portion of the script, produced segments and promos, and handled all social networking and media. During my time at Wait Wait, the show won a Peabody Award. I also booked and prepped several notable guests, including Patrick Fitzgerald, Leonard Nimoy, Ed Rendell, Melissa Etheridge, and Drew Carey.
I’m looking for work either in Philadelphia or available via telecommute. My skills include editing, radio production, reporting, social media, web production, and generating all sorts of content under really tight deadlines.
I have written for NPR.org, Esquire Magazine, National Geographic, The Daily Pennsylvanian, and The Pennsylvania Gazette and contribute a weekly column to Seriouseats.com.
I have also created and maintained several social media campaigns including:
- The social media and web presence for NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me. I created and maintained our presence on several social media platforms. During my tenure, our Facebook page attracted 50,000 fans, generating press interest from the New York Times and Business Week.
- A campaign to register students from the University of Pennsylvania into national bone marrow donor databases. My column in the Daily Pennsylvanian about bone marrow donation inspired over 100 people to become registered bone marrow donors.
- A cancer walk in South Jersey that raised thousands of dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of South Jersey. I promoted and advertised the walk and organized the entertainment during the event. I also raised over $5,000 dollars for cancer research.
I am looking for a creative job either in Philadelphia or available via telecommuting utilizing my writing, production, and social media skills. I believe I would be an asset to any media organization, non-profit, progressive organization, and/or university looking to reach audiences through highly informative, creatively-delivered messages and campaigns.
I can write copy on any topic for any audience, maintain your social media presence, create and edit podcasts, generate story and concept ideas, and edit both print and audio. I know how to research any topic under the sun — and I know who to call and what questions to ask.
I am hard-working, efficient, energetic and a very happy person. My email is melodykramer@gmail.com. I would be happy to send you a long list of references and clips.
